Sashimi? $15?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

That's right, I have found the holy grail for raw fish lovers. Unlimited sashimi buffet for $15 dollars!!!! (450 baht). This is basically a small restaurant called Taketei. Over on silom. Sure the sashimi is not the high quality stuff you find at Lord Jim's but it is still pretty good. They've got salom (my standard), tuna, and some other stuff. Yeah, too full from salmon to remember.

The cool part is that there are over 300 hundred items from the buffet menu, which you can order continuously and the bring it when it's done. None of that sitting out on long rows of table stuff.

Service is pretty good, although they do forget things once in a while, but NEVER the sashimi. for some reason the most expensive stuff comes out first. I find this amazing.

So yes check out this regular foodie treat of mine.

Furnishing my place

Living in the city is fun, an has always been a dream of mine. For as long as I can remember, I've always dreamed of living in New York, amongst the skyscrapers and the taxi cabs. Well, I finally did move into the city, though I can hardly say Bangkok is New York. However it does have it's own charm and lovely scent *cough*stench*cough*. Some parts of the city certainly remind me of my days of working in the more ghetto parts of LA.

I decided that I wanted to complete my city living adventure by designing my condo as a sweet bachelor pad. I saw the condo's at Room 62 by a company called Land and Houses, (don't worry I can't read Thai either)  and asked who did the interior. Apparently a company called Dellarobbia Thailand, did it but aren't accepting full interior orders anymore *sad face*. I had to settle for their furniture which was pretty comfy. Now I just have to decide where to put the stripper pole and I'm all set for a good time.

Food Food Food

I'm not gonna lie, I kind of miss the occasional In-N-Out and the yummy truffle mac and cheese at the local gastropub. Ever since I've moved from California to Thailand, my diet of american style food has gone down dramatically. BUT FEAR NOT, for I have rediscovered my love with Thai food. This is probably sad considering that I'm Thai. But here are some of my favorites:

Moo Yang (grilled pork skewers): simply, well seasoned with yummy(read fattening) coconut milk. Paired with some sticky rice and its a classic

Khoa Moo Dang Moo krop (rice with barbecued and crispy pork): Rice with a layer of barbecued pork and crispy pork. But it's really all about the sauce that makes it awesome. Kinda sweet, kinda nutty, but definitely delicious. Try to look for places that make their pork fresh every morning

Khoa Soi(Street Rice) I always thought this name was strange or maybe my Thai is just that bad, but it is actually a noodle dish, not a rice one. So its flat egg noodles in this yummy peanut-esque curry(don't worry not too spicy) with beef and some sour veggies and crispy noodles to top it off.

Some more food finds  will be coming soon....

Rule #2

Wait tables at least once in your life.

You will be humbled. No where else will you see such a great range of personalities, emotions, and challenges than when taking care of hungry people. Learn to communicate, learn to be patient, and learn to deal with angry people. Learn about your coworkers, from the pre-med college student working to jobs to get to med school to the cook, someone who deserves the most respect and yet is the least likely to receive.

Rule 1.

Rule #1: Never give up.

A man is never measured by the adversity he faces, but rather by how he faces it. From seeing the horrors of what we can do to each other to the despair being homeless, I can only say if I gave up, I will never have gotten my chance to make my little corner of the world better. I hope that you will always keep moving, keep dreaming, keep living.
